Home Planet BBC Radio 4

For six years I was an oceans expert on the BBC Radio 4 series Home Planet. It was a huge pleasure to join my colleagues on air, including most weeks Philip Stott, to answer listeners questions about science and the environment.

Here are a few of my favourite questions:

If squeezing gases makes them hot, why are the ocean depths so chilly?

Do the poisonous substances found in conkers harm fish when they wash into rivers?

Is anything evolving to eat the mountain of plastic pollution
sloshing around in the oceans?

Why do fungi have colours?

Why do larger animals live longer than small ones?

Sadly the series came to an end in December 2011 but the whole back catalogue is available to listen to on the BBC website.
