Where’s the catch?

I’ve written an article for Hakai magagzine about a new study that reveals that small-scale fisheries along the western coast of Africa are catching far more fish than previously thought.

Official statistics are missing a huge amount of fish and a huge amount of income generated by non-industrial fisheries.

I speak with the study’s lead author and consider what this means for local fishers and fisheries management across the region.
