Scientists in the Wild
My new series of children's books
Scientists in the Wild is my brand new series of children’s books launching in 2023. This is my first collaboration with the brilliant artist Rômolo D’Hipólito and my second book with Flying Eye Books.
The series grew from my idea of creating a dream team of scientists and sending them off on great adventures to explore some of the most exciting parts of the planet.
Their first destination is Galápagos.
Tasked with observing and protecting the islands’ amazing wildlife, the scientists will track and study the animals and plants that are unique to this incredible archipelago.
To get the job done they will climb volcanoes, get sneezed on by marine iguanas, watch dancing birds, launch a deep-diving submersible and explore the dazzling underwater wonders of Galápagos.
While the characters in the book have (mostly) sprung entirely from my imagination, the science they do is very real indeed. I’ve packed the book with real scientific and conservation studies conducted around the islands, above and beneath the waves.
A big idea for the book is to show readers how all sorts of different scientists work together to study and protect our living planet, from geologists and oceanographers, to bird nerds and fish heads.
It’s been a huge joy to watch my characters and their adventures come to life on the page with Rômolo’s beautiful illustrations.
The book is aimed at readers aged 7 to 11, and I hope will be loved by everyone who sees it.
